1. There has been much discussion and some concern regarding the Everbridge Emergency Notification System. For that reason, we thought that it might be helpful to provide some additional information and clarification. 2. Why – The Commandant of the Coast Guard absolutely sees Auxiliarists as members of the Coast Guard Family. He is absolutely sincere when he calls us Shipmates. That said, he has directed all District Commanders to be able to account for the safety of ALL members for the Coast Guard during major natural or manmade disasters and incidents. |
Frm DIRAUX: All operations normal at this time. Govt shutdown was avoided with the 7th continuing budget resolution. Further guidance will be distributed if necessary. Thank you again for your patience & vigilance. |
To All D1SR Auxiliarists, This announcement is offered as an update to the current situation of a potential government shutdown. Its purpose is to appraise the Auxiliary membership of the First District's current intended course of action and to provide general guidance regarding overall greater Auxiliary activities post-government shutdown if this occurs. We have been advised by our program managers in Headquarters (CG 5421) that should there be a government shutdown, virtually all greater Auxiliary activities shall cease whether under Coast Guard orders or where activities for which assignment to duty stems from the performance of the duty itself (vessel examinations, public education, meetings etc). The only authorized Auxiliary activities would be those determined to be necessary by operational commanders, which likely will be none. All patrols and activities will cease unless otherwise notified. Additionally, liability coverage by the government for injuries or damage would not be covered except when under orders of operational commanders. We do not expect written guidance from Headquarters today. Should events through tomorrow indicate an impending shutdown, CG 5421 will issue an ALAUX message which will call for cessation of all Auxiliary activities as of midnight Friday. Headquarters guidance is rapidly updating. Further guidance may change our intended course of action and further notification will be provided as needed. Thank you for your patience. |
